The CPI(M) has dropped former state minister Susanta Ghosh from its newly elected 80-member West Bengal state committee. The decision was taken during the party’s 27th state conference, where several veteran leaders were excluded. The new committee includes 14 women and 11 fresh faces. Mohammad Salim has been unanimously re-elected as the state secretary. CPI(M) stated that the committee was formed through a consensus-based process.
Senior North Bengal leaders Ashok Bhattacharya and Jeevesh Sarkar have also been removed. Bhattacharya was dropped earlier, while Sarkar’s exclusion this time means there is no prominent North Bengal leader in the committee. The restructuring reflects a shift in leadership representation, with CPI(M) focusing on new members while removing several long-serving figures. The party has not provided specific reasons for the removals.
The changes come as CPI(M) prepares for upcoming political challenges in the state. The new committee aims to strengthen its organizational structure and mobilize grassroots support. The party stated that the selection process ensured balanced representation across different sections, including an increased number of women members.
